Avatar Goodness...Reader & Writer

Marisa, my latest client wanted two custom avatars for use on her blog, business cards, you name it. She specified custom designs (not stock) with an Asian look, one as a writer, one as a reader. The reader was to be more alternative looking.

Being custom designs they were sketched out beforehand and then brought into Illustrator to be traced as a vector. After their bones were laid in Illustrator the images were brought into Photoshop to be shaded and some real photography added.

The Process:
The Paper Sketch

The sketch was placed in Illustrator and "drawn" over to be made into a vector.

The backgrounds are real images.

  1. Thank you for sharing how to do this. Not that I could, but I like to see how it's done.

Oh that's really cool. I had no idea what vector stuff was. I buy vector art but didn't have a clue. And the designs are awesome. I love seeing them go from sketch to finished design.
